How I made my first 100,000 gold in World of warcraft by mining and engineering.

I have been accused of drinking too much. I definitely have been accused of mouthing off too much.  But I have a right to.

I , and my guild are arguably one of the richest guilds or hard riding chopper enthusiasts you can ever meet.

Now to get to be a multi multi hundred millionaire in the game World of Warcraft, it took me a lot of work. 

Nowadays it is actually harder to make money the first way I did, Mining.

Mining right now should be looked at as a way to being able to mine the rich ores that will make you bank. Mining is gonna be hard work for you and you should use those ores to level up your engineering and other professions.


BUT  if you mine Dark Iron ore which is a vanilla wow ore or Mine Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King ores. 

But in truth back in 2008 I made my first 100K Mining.

To do that nowadays with current low prices you  will need to mine the following expansion packs and ores.

Vanilla classic wow  Mine Dark Iron Ore about 8- 20 gold each. More on this later.
TBC Burning crusade zone  Mine All ores: Fel Iron About 14g each, Adamantite Ore 14g. Khorium Ore worth about 100 - 200 gold each.
Wrath of the Lich King zones Mine all ores. Cobalt ore 20g each.  Saronite ore 10g each. Titanium ore about 100g each.


I take myseft back to my first 100,000 gold. This was way way way back in 2008. I had just returned to world of warcraft , for good . I decided that I was going to spend my free time earning the ability to buy whatever I wanted in the game.

At first my desire was the Mekgineer Chopper. It is a 14,000 gold mount that engineers can make and anyone can drive. It was also one of the few two seater mounts in the game. It was the only craftable two seater mount at that time.


At this time I was hanging around the city of Ironforge.  Its an amazingly fun city to play in as a new player.

I recommend you try jumping over the laval canals that encircle the city center on a ground mount.

Now I suggest you create a mage, and if possible boost that mage to max level. Go to Iron forge or Stormwind  with that new mage and learn the mining skill.
Below is the map of the city Ironforge and Stormwind . The trainer for the mining profession  is  labeled. If you chat with a guard, you can get the guard to direct you to the mining profession.

Above is the Mining Trainer marked in Yellow in the city of Stormwind. You can ask a guard if you get lost.  Below is the map of Ironforge with themining trainer marked in RED. Again the Drwarven guards will help you find your way if you get lost.
I pour myself a nice stiff drink, And then set about leveling my skills to reach that 14- 15k goal. Now along the way I learned that I could actually craft that chopper mount. Its the mount pictured at the bottom of this web page. I would have to learn the profession of engineering.  It turns out that profession of mining is needed to level the profession of engineering in wow. I circle the engineering trainer on the above map in Yellow. So with Rum in my belly and a song in my heart , I worked to earn it.

I marked the path , I took mining in Dun Morogh in yellow.  I suggest you head outside and get to mining.
You need gold to play and pay for this game. Be patient for  and do the work and do the grind it takes to make that gold. It is worth spending the time to earn the gold.

You will need to level up your mining, and through mining level up your engineering.  Your early gold earnings will be very low.  The path above will let you mine Copper ore and Tin Ore.  You can then smelt the tin and copper using the smelting skill.  After smelting for a while you can then learn how to smelt Bronze, which is made by combining copper and tin in smelting.

Ores and bars can both be sold on the Auction house ( from now on called AH) and the prices will vary wildly as other people try to force you to lower your prices.

Its is a good policy to sell bars and ores in SMALL ammounts and at the lowest price on the AH. This is because there will always be some joker trying to uncercut you to force you to tank your price.  Go with the flow on that and just lower your price.

You arent gonna get rich selling copper , tin  , bronze  ores or bars. So dont try.  Just tank the prices in low ammounts on the AH and move on to the next ores and bars in the mining and smelting tree.

Pour yourself a drink , get  out there and grind the mining.

Now as you progress up this tree. The worth of the ores and bars SHOULD go up on the AH (Auction House remember) . However I found the Rare ones will be fought over by wanna be tycoons who wish to dominate certain ores and bars.

Dark Iron ores and Bars.


Dark Iron Ores and Bars are best done with a max level or near max level character.
The best place to mine Dark Iron is inside the raid Molten Core.  Which is soloable for max level toons.

Keep in mind as you farm all the above you should primarily use it to level up your engineering. Then use the excess to sell on the AH.
